Hilltops Council are committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, their families and our community. That is why, from close of business today, Tuesday 24 March, we will be making some changes to the delivery of our services.

Hilltops Council take steps toward clearer water

Council advise that they have almost completed the Back Creek Road water main renewal project. The final stage of the project is to undertake the connection of the new pipe and disconnection of the old pipe. This project is aimed at improving water quality across Young.

Hilltops residents asked to think before they flush

Due to a shortage in the supply of toilet paper, Hilltops Council are experiencing a high volume of rags and wet wipes coming into sewerage treatment plants in the area. This is causing sewer pipe blockages.

Centrelink and Service NSW Kiosk at Hilltops Library Harden open

Council advise that the Centrelink and Service NSW Kiosk located at the Hilltops Library Harden will be open weekdays between 10.30am and 12.30pm. While the protection of our staff and community remains a priority, we recognise the need for this important service to continue. Please note that other library services will not be available. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this requirement.

I was very pleased to welcome Mr Anthony O’Reilly to the role of General Manager at Hilltops Council last week. Anthony comes to us from Eurobodalla with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has hit the ground running and is already making a positive  impact on the organisation.

Coronavirus update – Hilltops Council response

Hilltops Council encourage community members to stay up to date with information provided by the Australian Federal Government Department of Health, we will be following their instructions and guidelines. It should be noted that there are currently no reported cases of the virus in the Hilltops area.

ANZAC Day Services cancelled across the Hilltops Region

Hilltops Council have received notification from RSL NSW that a decision has been made to cancel all public ANZAC Day commemoration services across the state. This decision has been made to reduce the risk to vulnerable people during the current health situation.

Lambing Flat Chinese Festival cancelled

It is with regret that Council advise the cancellation of the 2020 Lambing Flat Chinese Festival scheduled to be held in Young next Saturday 21 March.

The rains that have fallen in our Hilltops region has lifted the spirits of all. This was evident at the Boorowa Show last Saturday with everyone, including 4 of the 5 little angels, enjoying the fun and contributing to the happiness of the day.

From unrelenting drought, the constant threat of bushfires, being engulfed in smoke for weeks on end during patches of extreme heat, and a variety of issues with quality and accessibility to clean drinking water, these issues remind us how interdependent we are with the environment. We have problems with our waste management, with the tips and control of recyclables additionally causing concern.
