Cherry Fever hits Hilltops

29/11/2020

The cherry harvest is well underway with orchards right across the region producing delicious fruit. Now is the time to plan a visit and enjoy this wonderful season.

Download the Cherry Harvest Passport from www.nationalcherryfestival.com.au for a list of orchards, Pick Your Own and shed sales as well as local activities, attractions and markets occurring over the cherry harvest season.

Plan your trip to Young to pick your own cherries. Afterall, it is the delicious fruit that gives the town its reputation as the Cherry Capital of Australia. This year especially, it is important to book ahead due to COVID-19 restrictions, so you don’t miss out on the full cherry experience. Each cherry orchard has a COVID Safety Plan in place, please call ahead if you have any questions or concerns about restrictions in place this year.

The Hilltops Region has a range of accommodation options available for visitors including hotels, motels, B&B’s and bustling campgrounds. Accommodation books out quickly during the cherry season, so make sure you plan ahead.

If you are not keen to try your hand at picking, there are plenty of orchard stalls with fresh boxed cherries for sale, and tempting cherry produce to buy. There are currently strawberries, peaches and apricots available with plums and figs later in the season.

Why not sample a cherry pie or a cherry ice-cream to cool yourself down in the summer heat. Other cherry products include jam, sauces, fudge, juice, wine, liqueurs, gin, port – you name it, the Hilltops Region delivers on the cherry products.
