Council Column- 26 August 2020- Councillor Wendy Tuckerman

Aug 26, 2020

As a regional community, local sport is at the heart of our culture and a reminder of ‘the norm’ we are all deeply missing in our present times.

Whilst community sport is currently allowed in local areas, new additional measures have been put in place for the next 6 weeks. As I understand, these measures will then be reviewed and revised if necessary.

All activities that result in the mixing of participants and staff from different regions, for example zone, regional or state championships and competitions, must not go ahead.

The new measures include limiting spectators to one parent only, cessation of any activities that involve overnight stays and the cessation of face-to-face social activities including award ceremonies, end of season social gatherings and post-training dinners and events.

Whilst I appreciate the implications this has for all, including our local businesses, we must do our best to keep our communities safe by playing our part.

To date, we have managed to keep our local community safe but it’s important we maintain our current efforts and adhere to these new (albeit frustrating) measures.

For up to date advice and information I encourage anyone with concerns to contact the Service NSW hotline on 13 77 88, this line has been set up 24/7 to answer any queries.
