Hilltops 2040 will provide greater information on the Council’s objectives for Hilltops communities and direction for Council and the community when planning the future. It also outlines the priorities and actions needed to see this happen.
The document notes the individual strengths and opportunities of major towns across Hilltops and what is proposed to see these strengths sustained and grow to see us thrive well into the future.
Hilltops 2040 is to be a long term strategic planning document and fulfills the State governments requirements to prepare a Local Strategic Planning Statement, describing how the Hilltops Community Strategic Plan will be progressed through quality planning decisions.
The document considers the economic and social needs of the Hilltops community and how these will change in the future. It also considers how to protect and improve the livability of our towns and our natural environment in response to local, regional, national and global challenges.
The draft Hilltops 2040 sets a 20-year vision with priorities and actions for planning across the Hilltops Local Government Area. To achieve this, Hilltops 2040 acknowledges what should stay the same and what may change in relation to each of our communities.
This includes the locations and types of growth each town can accommodate and their critical roles in economic development. Also, the things each community have told us they want to protect, to ensure the rural lifestyles they enjoy can also be enjoyed by their kids and grandkids well into the future.
The finalised Hilltops 2040 will identify the strategic roles and objectives of individual places in achieving economic, community and environment goals as well as describing how and where these are planned to occur.
It provides local context, identifying strategic goals that reflect the aims and aspirations of local communities, making land use objectives more relevant to the individual communities and environments of Hilltops.
The finalised Hilltops 2040 will inform changes to future planning controls including the directions and controls to be contained within the proposed Hilltops Local Environmental Plan (LEP) which will be developed upon completion of this document. It will also inform the proposed Hilltops Development Control Plan (DCP), which Council are seeking to develop in 2020/21.
In conjunction with work underway on the development of a strategic asset management plan, Hilltops 2040 will also inform infrastructure priorities, developer contributions, local infrastructure plans and other associated policies.
The draft Hilltops 2040 document is on public exhibition from today, Monday 20 April until Monday 18 May.
The draft plan can be viewed on Councils website at www.hilltops.nsw.gov.au , under the ‘Plans and Policies on Display’ page.
“I encourage you to read the draft Hilltops 2040 on Councils website and to make a submission via email to email@example.com to ensure our towns and villages have the capacity to provide quality, enjoyable and sustainable environments for people to live, work and invest in.” Said Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram.
