Hilltops Library Invites Community to Discover More During Open Doors, Open Books, Open Minds Event

Jul 24, 2026

Hilltops Library is inviting the community to discover everything their local library has to offer during Open Doors, Open Books, Open Minds on Thursday, 30 July 2026.

Open Doors, Open Books, Open Minds is a statewide initiative led by the NSW Public Libraries Association (NSWPLA) and the State Library of NSW. Libraries across New South Wales will welcome visitors to explore the many services, programs and opportunities available through their local public library.

At Hilltops Library, visitors can enjoy:

  • Fun activities for children, including Storytime and craft
  • Public access computers and free Wi-Fi
  • Study spaces
  • Help using technology
  • Book Club sets – borrow multiple copies of the same title so everyone can read together
  • Help finding your next great read
  • Launchpads – tablets with educational games and no internet connectivity
  • SPARK kits – science kits with everything you need to bring science home and make it fun

Library Manager John Williams said Open Doors was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the important role libraries play in the community.

“Many people know libraries for books, but today’s public libraries offer so much more. Open Doors is a chance for everyone to discover the programs, technology, collections, spaces and friendly staff that make our library such an important part of the community.”

Acting General Manager Sarah Karaitiana said Council was proud to support the initiative.

“Our library is one of our community’s most valued public spaces. Open Doors is a fantastic opportunity for residents to experience everything it has to offer and celebrate the contribution it makes to learning, wellbeing and community connection.”

Visitors may also be surprised to discover that the library offers:

  • eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and read-aloud children’s books
  • Access to digital resources, including Gale Databases and State Library Learning
  • Books designed for people with dyslexia or low vision
  • Local history and family history resources
  • Assistance with resumes and job seeking
  • Books in your language
  • A cost-free, judgement-free place to spend time

Everyone is welcome to attend, whether they are regular library members or visiting for the first time.
