Media Release – 1 February 2023 – Bribbaree Waste Facility Closed

Feb 1, 2023

For Immediate Release 1/02/2023
Authorised by Anthony O’Reilly

Following a routine inspection at the Bribbaree Waste Facility on 30 January 2023, remnants of asbestos containing material were discovered in and around the landfill cell which had been burnt. Council has made the decision to temporarily close the facility for the safety of the residents and staff.

Hilltops Council will now engage a Class A Licenced Asbestos Removal Contractor to remove the asbestos and cover burnt waste material. Until the removal is undertaken, the Bribbaree Waste Facility will remain closed.

Red and yellow bins will be located adjacent to the Bribbaree Rural Fire Brigade shed, 19 Weedallion Street Bribbaree, until this issue is resolved. The bins will be in place and available for use effective Saturday 4 February 2023. Council will advise residents once the facility can be safely reopened.
