Hilltops Council is thrilled to announce the kick-off of Youth Week 2024, a celebration aimed at empowering the youth of our community and fostering their leadership potential. Running from 11 April to 21 April, Youth Week promises an exciting array of events and activities designed to engage, inspire, and uplift our young residents.
This year’s theme, “Express. Empower. Get Loud!” reflects our commitment to providing young people with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive and make meaningful contributions to society. From educational workshops to recreational activities, the week-long program offers something for every young person in the Hilltops area.
Highlights of Youth Week 2024 include:
- Game Day Gala and Youth Markets – Alongside PCYC, we are hosting a fun -filled sports day, with youth encouraged to register a team and dress up, to compete in several sports. Youth markets will also be running throughout the day with music, yummy food and prizes to be won. Sat 13 April / $ Free / Register a team – Ages 12 – 18 / Register your market stall – Ages 12 – 24
- Songline Journey on Country – Embark on a journey of cultural discovery as we venture on Wiradjuri Country, guided by Wiradjuri Elders Aunty Enid and Uncle Keith. Mon 15 April / $ Free / Register to secure spot / Ages 12+
- Centrelink Skills Workshop – Hosted by the region’s Financial Information Officer and Indigenous Support Officer from Services Australia, this interactive workshop will give you key information about Centrelink payments, MyGov, Superannuation and more! Tue 16 April / $ Free / Register to secure spot / Ages 12 – 24
- Mental Health Workshops – Hosted by Wellways, this interactive workshop will be in Harden, Young and Boorowa, and provides a safe and supportive space for young people to engage in discussions, learn coping strategies, and access resources to prioritise their mental well-being. Wed 17 April / $ Free / Ages 12 – 24
- Youth Music Festival – Hosted by Cootamundra-Gundagai Council, Cootamundra is having their first Youth Music Festival with live bands and djs, food vans, airbrush tattoos and hair styling tents. Our bus will be stopping in Harden, Boorowa and Young so make grab your friends and come along. Thur 18 April / $ Free / Register for festival and bus separately / Ages 12 – 18
- Teenage Trade Workshop facilitated by Bunnings – This workshop offers practical, hands-on experience in various trades and vocational skills, equipping youth with valuable knowledge for future career paths. Sat 20 April / $ Free / Register to secure spot / Ages 14 – 18
Throughout Youth Week, the Hilltops Council encourages young people to share their experiences and join the conversation on social media and tagging @hilltopsyouth. By amplifying youth voices and perspectives, we can continue to create a more inclusive and vibrant community for all.
