Authorised by Anthony O’Reilly
On Saturday afternoon, 5 August 2023, Council was contacted by the NSW Rural Fire Service who advised that the Reids Flat Waste Facility landfill cell was on fire. Response teams have extinguished the fire and Council has decided to close the landfill facility to ensure the safety of the public and Council staff.
A temporary transfer station has been put in place with red and yellow 240 litre garbage bins at the Reids Flat Waste Facility. Only domestic general waste and recycling will be accepted. All other material, including bulky waste, metals and demolition material should be taken to the Boorowa Waste Transfer Station.
Hours of operation remain unchanged, the facility will be open every Wednesday between 10am and 2pm, and every Saturday from 8am until 2pm.
Hilltops Council is following the directions of the NSW Environment Protection Authority and preparing to close and cover the landfill cell at Reids Flat. Council will advise residents as site remediation progresses.
