New focus on Hilltops Youth

Hilltops Council have recently welcomed Georgia Thomaidis to the role of Youth Engagement and Inclusion Officer. This newly created position has been funded by the NSW Government under the Stronger Communities fund for a period of two years. Funding has also been secured from the Youth Opportunities Program to deliver a series of events and programs for young people.

The purpose of the role is to increase the number of youth-led and youth-driven community activities throughout Hilltops and to engage young people in projects which overcome barriers to participation in the community.

The core principles of the Youth Engagement and Inclusion Officer position is based on:

  • Inclusiveness and participation for all young people
  • Building young people’s knowledge and skills
  • Partnering with young people in the development of community based networks
  • Working with relevant groups to advocate for youth interests in the community.

Council are currently seeking nominations from Youth aged between 12-24 to form a Hilltops Youth Action Group. The group will be involved in various events across the Hilltops including  a range of new youth specific events in 2021. These events will be designed by Hilltops youth for Hilltops youth.

Council aim to build a team of diverse, motivated youth of all ages, abilities, genders and backgrounds.

Hilltops Council General Manager, Anthony O’Reilly says “This is an exciting opportunity and we hope that the Hilltops Youth Action Group will inspire young people to contribute to the community.”

Our Youth Officer will be available at the following locations to  provide further information and answer any questions from interested community members. Anyone interested in joining the group is invited to drop in for a chat and snack.

Young – Council Chambers – Monday 30 November, 3pm-4.30pm
Harden – Council Chambers –  Tuesday 1 December,  3pm-4.30pm
Boorowa – Council Chambers – Thursday 3 December,  3pm-4.30pm
