All participants in the Cherry Queen and Cherry King competition, since the first days of the National Cherry Festival, are being asked to take part in a gala 70th anniversary celebration to be held in Young later this year.
The National Cherry Festival is marking its 70th year in 2019 and the special Queen and King event is one initiative being introduced to celebrate the milestone.
The National Cherry Festival Committee resolved to seek public assistance to ensure that as many people as possible involved in the competition over the past seven decades are contacted and invited to attend.
“We really need the help of the public in compiling a comprehensive list and getting the word out,” said National Cherry Festival president, Caitlin Sheehan.
“The committee is working hard to compile information about winners over the years so that we can have as many previous Cherry Kings and Queens as possible share in the milestone event with us. It would be very helpful to have additional input to ensure we have an accurate overview.”
If you, a family member or friend participated in one of the competitions over the years please contact the Young Visitor Information Centre on 1800 628 233 or email emma.hill@hilltops.nsw.gov.au with contact details.
The committee is also seeking images from past National Cherry Festivals, especially those featuring Cherry Queens and Kings.
