As summer approaches it is important that everyone is prepared for bushfire season. Fuel levels will be extremely high and now is the time to take steps to reduce hazards on your property. Simple activities such as cleaning of gutters, keeping lawns mowed and gardens well maintained, cutting back trees and shrubs, and ensuring hoses are connected and ready to use can all make a huge difference in the case of a fire. Further information can be found on the NSW Rural Fire Service website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
Recently we welcomed our new Director Infrastructure, Bileen Nel. Bileen comes to Hilltops with a wealth of experience and knowledge and completes our Executive. I welcome Bileen and am confident that our many infrastructure assets and projects are in great hands.
This week Council’s Youth Inclusion and Engagement Officer commenced in their role. This is a brand new role for Hilltops Council and focuses on all things youth related in our community. This will mean greater support and increased opportunities for our young people, and increased events and activities targeted at youth. This position has been funded by the State Government for a period of two years. I thank Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke for her assistance in gaining this funding.
The Draft LEP Planning Proposal will be going to Council this month. This is an essential document to guide land use planning in Hilltops. This Planning Proposal, known as a ‘Gateway’, once endorsed by Council will be sent to the State Government to review the planning done to date. If the planning proposal is approved by the State Government, it will allow us to progress to consultation with the community in 2021.
