Council Column- 24 June 2020- Mayor Brian Ingram

Jun 24, 2020

The rain over the weekend was very welcome. As I drive around the Hilltops, the green paddocks and growing crops are something I will never tire of seeing. No doubt, the ongoing drought has been a trying time for the entire community and like all of you, I am hoping for a great season for all our farmers.

I extend my personal congratulations to Mrs Rose Alder of Harden and Mrs Nancy McGregor of Young who were recently presented with Order of Australia Medals. Both ladies have given so much to our communities as hard working and tireless volunteers for many years and it was very fitting that they were recognised with Queen’s Birthday Honours this year.

It is good to see that work has commenced on the next stage of the Young Aquatic Centre upgrade project. I know the community are very much looking forward to having a splash pad and learn to swim facility to enjoy in the summer months. I am assured that work is on schedule to be ready for the opening of the swimming season. Work has also commenced on the Boorowa Skatepark, this will be a fantastic asset to the town and provide enjoyment for many children and their families.

In relation to COVID-19, once again I thank the community for their patience and support during this time. It is great to see some further easing of restrictions and our central business districts starting to buzz again. Now, more than ever, is the time to support our local businesses in any way we can. Please continue to shop locally, like and share social media posts and tell your friends and family when you have a great experience with a local business. Just a reminder that the message from the NSW Government is still very clear – physical distancing and excellent hygiene are the best ways we can protect ourselves and others.
