This week we pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.
For many of us, she has been a part of our life from childhood– defining an era that has seen enormous global social, political, and economic change.
As a statesperson Queen Elizabeth II showed courage, dignity, constancy, and devotion.
Her deep affection for Australia was never in question and whatever political views we might hold as to the role of the monarchy in modern Australia, we should rightly acknowledge the queen’s lifelong dedication of service to the Commonwealth.
Council has a condolence page at our offices in Boorowa, Harden and Young and I invite the community to add their name to the page. A condolence page will also be made available at retirement and aged care complexes in Hilltops. These will be forwarded to the Royal Family on behalf of Hilltops.
On Wednesday, at an extraordinary meeting of council, the Financial Statements for the period ending 30 June 2022 were referred to audit in accordance with section 413(1) of the Local Government Act 1993 (The Act). It is very pleasing to see that our financials and the financial sustainability of Hilltops Council is heading in the right direction. Substantial progress has been made since October 2021when Council resolved to take steps to improve financial sustainability.
For the first time Hilltops Council will record a net operating surplus for the year, before capital grants, of $1.6 million.
It has not been an easy road to reach this outcome and we are still on the journey. But we have made great progress and I thank the community, Councillors, and staff for their contribution to this success.
Hilltops is that minute section of planet Earth that has been entrusted to our care. The conversation to follow is how much we, as a community, are prepared to contribute to see our beautiful region grow and prosper.
