What is exempt development?
In some case very minor building renovations or works don’t need any planning or building approval and these can be undertaken as exempt development.
Exempt development is very low impact that has minimal environmental impact. Some things that can be exempt development include:

aerials

carports
-
decks
-
fences
-
garden sheds
-
home businesses.
To be considered exempt development, the proposal must meet all the relevant controls and criteria, as well as Clause 1.15 & 1.16 click here & here, of State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008 commonly called the Codes SEPP.
As long as the proposed works meet all of the development standards identified in the Codes SEPP, approval may not be needed.
