Galong Road improvements underway

Jul 10, 2020

Council have commenced work on 14 km of road pavement and drainage upgrades on Galong Road.

The NSW Government awarded almost $2.4 million to the Galong Road upgrade as part of the Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads program, a figure matched by the Australian Government under its Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program. Hilltops Council is delivering the project and also contributing $200,000.

Extensive environmental assessment has been undertaken  to minimise the impact of the works to neighbouring residents and the wider community. Some tree removal has been necessary to ensure a clear work zone for the project. Offset planting will be undertaken as part of project to replace the trees that have been removed.

This upgrade will improve travelability and road safety for all road users and will reduce ongoing  maintenance costs to Council.

Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram is pleased that work has commenced on this valuable project “Any upgrade to our roads that results in improved safety to users is a positive outcome for the community. I thank both the State and Federal Government for their contribution toward this project.”

Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman MP said the NSW Government’s investment in Galong Road is part of a $543 million program providing targeted infrastructure funding from the Restart NSW Fund for regional freight projects.

“Improvement of Galong Road will result in significantly reduced costs to business and industry while driving economic growth.”

“The Fixing Country Roads program is about moving freight more efficiently – supporting jobs, economic growth and productivity in regional NSW. This work links with works already completed on Cunningar Rd and the Tarengo Bridge” Mrs Tuckerman said.
