Keeping our community safe, COVID-19 update

Jun 30, 2020

Council are urging residents to remain careful and continue practicing appropriate physical distancing and strict hygiene measures as the best ongoing protection from COVID-19.

If you are planning a trip away in the school holidays please remain cautious in your use of facilities and exposure to highly populated areas.

Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram is reminding people to do the right thing “Now is not the time to become complacent, physical distancing and strict hygiene practices are still the best way to protect yourself and others.”

The NSW Government has recently eased certain restrictions.

  • On compassionate grounds, restrictions on funerals have eased to allow more than 50 mourners to attend a service subject to the 4 square metre rule. For smaller places of worship, funeral premises or crematoriums, where the 4 square metre rule does not allow more than 50 mourners, up to 50 can attend
  • For business owners, having a COVID-19 Safety Plan is either mandatory or recommended to ensure all obligations around community and staff safety are managed appropriately. Businesses can register as COVID Safe to show commitment to helping stop the spread of COVID-19

From today, Wednesday 1 July, the following activities will be allowed:

  • Kids sport and community sports competitions for those aged 18 years and under
  • Adult community sport
  • The number of people allowed inside indoor venues that can open will be determined by the one person per 4 square metre rule, with no upper limit. This includes function centres. All activity must be seated only. Cultural and sporting events at outdoor venues with a maximum capacity of 40,000 will be allowed up to 25% of their normal capacity. Events must be ticketed and seated and follow strict guidelines

Sporting groups must abide by guidelines set out in the Safety Plan issued by their relevant governing body or association. Spectators at sporting ovals and fields are subject to physical distancing rules of one person per 4 square metres. Kiosks and canteens in recreational and sports facilities are considered food and drink premises, and therefore require a separate COVID-19 safety plan under the Public Health Orders.
