Project Update – Heavy Patching, Rugby Road

Council is aware of concerns regarding the recent patching works undertaken on Rugby Road and acknowledges the community’s feedback and patience while the issue is addressed. During the patching works, Council staff discovered that underlying material (the subgrade) in that part of the road was not suitable, as well as the need to protect the road formation before forecast wet weather arrived.

A temporary seal was applied to the patch to protect it from being damaged during expected wet weather and allow the repairs to be completed with a permanent seal when weather improved.

Council crews returned to the site on Thursday 21 May to finalise the repairs. This included excavating and replacing the affected subgrade material and reinstating the road surface (see photo below showing completed seal):

Council will continue to monitor the site and ensure appropriate signage and traffic management measures remain in place to maintain public safety over the coming days.

Council acknowledges the professionalism and dedication of its outdoor works crews, who continue to respond to changing conditions across the road network while maintaining safe access for the community.

Rugby Road is a regional road funded by the NSW Government through the Regional Road Block Grant. The works undertaken on Rugby Road required careful assessment and specialised remediation to ensure a longer-term outcome rather than a short-term fix.

Council’s outdoor works crews work across a large and complex regional road network in varying weather conditions and are committed to delivering safe and durable infrastructure outcomes for residents and road users. Their experience and proactive response on Rugby Road helped minimise further damage during the wet weather period and allowed for permanent repairs to be completed efficiently once conditions improved.

Council thanks its crews for their ongoing efforts, technical expertise and commitment to maintaining the region’s road network under often challenging conditions and residents and road users for their understanding, patience and cooperation while these important infrastructure improvements are completed.
