Rye Park
Rye Park is a small village nestled in a scenic rural setting and is a 20 minute drive east of Boorowa, 30 minutes north of Yass and 70 minutes west from Goulburn.
The village was first settled in the 1840s as a farming community, and although experiencing brief periods of silver and tin mining, it was, and is still, known for its fine merino wool and meat production.
Evidence of the village’s early settlers can still be found. The Hume family settled in the area in 1865 at ‘Everton’ and immediately established their renowned superfine merino stud. The homestead remains relatively unchanged from its original construction and is still a privately owned working sheep property.
Rye Park has 11 items of heritage, such as the butchers, the bakers, the Bush Nurses Home, and a number of historic churches. While some are in need of renovation, they remain as a testament to the village’s history.
Rye Park Village Plan Update
Hilltops Council, in partnership with the Rye Park Progress Association, would like to thank the Rye Park community for their participation in the Rye Park Village Planning process.
The draft Rye Park Village Plan is being developed in consultation with the community. Consultation includes community meetings, a village survey, and Council representatives attending Rye Park Progress Association meetings.
The Rye Park Village survey was conducted over May and June 2024, with the results forming the fundamental purpose of the plan: to provide a functional document that provides insight and guidance to the local community. A document to be used in progressing and developing their villages, while encouraging and supporting their potential and economic viability.
The survey asked the following two questions:
- a) What do you love about your village and the wider Rye Park community?
- b) What improvements would you like to see to social and physical infrastructure to help overcome any challenges faced by the community?
The outcome of the survey and consultation has been a table of actions, with an identified lead group or individual, and a final table of actions for future consideration (should a lead be identified), for inclusion in the draft Rye Park Village Plan.
The draft plan will include information on the village’s economy, demographics, and history. Updates to village information are being provided by the community to ensure the most accurate depiction of Rye Park is presented.

Next steps:
The draft Rye Park Village Plan is currently under development. The draft document will be presented to Council at a future Ordinary Council Meeting for endorsement and public exhibition for 28 days.
