In response to feedback from users of the Redhill waste facility in Young, Hilltops Council has voted to extend the operating hours of the site, with the gates now opening earlier and closing later to allow for increased access.

Mayor Brian Ingram explained that the current operating hours of 9am to 2pm will be changed to 8am to 4pm, with a two-hour closure between midday and 2pm.

“A number of users, particularly in the commercial sector, have spoken to myself and other councillors recently about the need for greater flexibility when it comes to accessing the Redhill waste facility,” Mayor Ingram said.

“This is a vital service provided by the Council, and extending the operating hours is a sensible outcome that reflects the needs of the community by providing extra time at the beginning and end of the day,” he said.

Mayor Ingram said users will be further consulted on the effectiveness and convenience of the new times, as part of a broader conversation with the community regarding the development of the new Hilltops Waste Management Strategy.

“Further consultation on the Redhill opening times will be included in the discussions surrounding the new Waste Management Strategy, which will put in place long-term solutions to the management of waste – including commercial waste management – to ensure waste facilities and services are catering to the needs of the entire community,” Mayor Ingram said.

“How waste services are delivered is something that impacts everyone so I certainly encourage the community to take part in the consultations that will take place around putting this new strategy together,” he said.

Mayor Ingram said a community consultation will be held on Wednesday 14 March at Young’s Town Hall commencing at 10am.

“The consultation will allow people to gain an understanding of current waste management practices in Hilltops, to understand why change is needed, and to be a part of the conversation shaping the future of local waste management practices,” Mayor Ingram said.
