Council was successful in obtaining from the Environmental Protection Authority $380 000 through the State Government’s Waste Less Recycle More initiative to improve refuse facilities in Hilltops villages and increase re-use.
The waste transfer stations will enable waste to be relocated via a bulk waste trailer to a licensed regional waste landfill facility, replacing the current facilities which saw a large proportion of rubbish buried on site.
This also provides the opportunity for Council to commence rehabilitation works at existing landfill sites. This will allow Council to reduce environmental risks and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the villages. In addition it will improve site security and access, overall supervision and operations.
The transfer stations will be located on the existing landfill sites and will result in allocated areas for recycling and general waste.
Council is now in the process of gaining development approval for the three transfer stations prior to commencing works. Subject to their approval, Council is looking to commence works in mid 2020.
