Young Show
In September, I was honoured to be elected the Rural Ambassador for Young — something definitely out of my comfort zone, but an experience I’ll never forget. I’d like to give a big shoutout to the other candidates — Edwina Kelly, who took out Woman of the Year, and the Junior Woman of the Year candidates Gabreelle Kemp and Ashleigh Carberry, with Gabreelle taking home the title. I truly believe each one of us stepped outside our comfort zones, and that experience has benefited not only us but our whole region.
I’d encourage anyone under the age of 29 to consider running next year — it’s a great learning experience and an incredible opportunity to meet new people. A big thank you to the Godsells and all the local volunteers who make these events possible, and a special shoutout to all our sponsors. Without their ongoing support, our local shows simply couldn’t go ahead. So, if you see any of them around town, please thank them!
Citizenship Ceremony
Also in September, Hilltops Council held their citizenship ceremony — congratulations to the 11 new citizens who officially became Australians! A big personal shoutout to my friend Jenna Hosken, who I met through church, on becoming a citizen. Congratulations to everyone — it’s such a special moment to celebrate.
Boorowa Woolfest
What an absolutely great weekend! I attended the Woolfest on Sunday with my family, and it was fantastic to see so many people from around our region — and from afar — come together. The sheep were a little bit slow out of the gate, but once they let the farm dogs out, they sure knew what they were doing! It really shows what we can achieve when our local communities chip in and support one another. A huge shoutout to all the volunteers and to Hilltops Council for making it happen. Without everyone’s efforts, events like this just wouldn’t be possible.
Harden Kite Festival
For anyone who didn’t make it — you missed out! I went along with my family, and it was an awesome day. I met people from all over the state — over a sausage sandwich and a bacon and egg roll, of course! The kites were unreal, the local stalls were busy, and the community spirit was alive and well. That’s what it’s all about.
And yes — I did have a go at the jumping castle balls… safe to say I didn’t make it across!
Catholic Church Renovations
A few weeks ago, I was invited to see the newly renovated Catholic Church, and what an outstanding job they’ve done. I truly encourage everyone to go and have a look at the renovations, or even attend a Sunday service.
I personally attend The Young Presbyterian Church which now has moved to the Young High School Hall as we continue to grow in number and plan to expand our church building. Anyone is more than welcome to come along at 10am on Sunday whether you’d like to ask questions, just listen, or simply have a chat and a catch-up hopefully I will see you there.
